Location and Accommodation
The Zazil can be found in the charming little beach village of San Agustinillo on the Pacific coast of the state of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico. It is only a 50-minute flight away from Mexico City. You have a choice of two arrival airports with regular flights in both directions. San Agustinillo is approximately 1 hour from both Puerto Escondido and Huatulco Airports. Bus travel to Oaxaca City takes about 6 hours, to Acapulco, 8, and to Mexico City, 12.
The area of San Agustinillo and Mazunte is considered a "Magical Village" (Pueblo Mágico)since 2015. It is a privileged destination to enjoy the Pacific coast among history, culture and nature. The combination of half-empty beaches and moderate prices makes this up-and-coming area very attractive for travelers, who are looking for a safe journey but ready to explore beyond the popular Mexican beach areas.
The Zazil Retreat is set in a quiet, relaxed hilltop along the sea awash with gentle breezes of fresh sea air against a thick canopy of trees, hidden from eyes of locals and visitors, but within a 7-minute
walk to the beach, the main street and restaurants. Rise to birds chirping and rest at night to the soft sounds waves and crickets. Zazil is a place to harmonize your senses with all the effects of the natural surroundings.
Lodge in one of nine large, private rooms with breathtaking panoramic terrace views. Resting behind rooms is the Mexican Sierra Madre Mountains. Each room is a Mexican ‘palapa’ structure with typical high ceilings made of tropical hardwoods thickly covered with dried palm leaves. This type of construction respects and honors the regional identity endemic to Oaxacan coastal architecture.
You will be visiting during the rainy season, when the whole area is bursting with colors and freshness. For your comfort, the houses and beds have mosquito nets, so you should never worry about lost sleep at night.
Meet Your Hosts
Yoga Teacher / Retreat Manager
Jane is a 200-hour certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Teacher (Abhinam Yoga, India) and Tantra Massage Therapist (Somananda Tantra School, Estonia). She holds a 260-hour Hatha Yoga and Meditation Certification (Hridaya Yoga, Mexico) and over 200 hours in advanced Tantric studies (Agama Yoga, Thailand).
She picked up her first book about yoga when she was 13 years old and has been deeply involved in studying asanas, pranayamas, meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology since then for almost 20 years.
Jane found out about a 1-cm herniated disc in her lumbar spine about 6 years ago, since then, she dedicated her life to research and healing practices of this issue. She traveled close and far, met with shamans and high-end surgeons. Now, she made it her mission to share these precious knowledge, because against all doctor’s prognosis, she is not only walking, but she is in fact pain-free.
Educated by yoga gurus in India, she prioritizes correct alignment and injury-free yoga.
Lorraine is certified in various Eastern, Western, and Osteopathic massage techniques. She has been doing bodywork for 26 years and has done more than 5000 therapies getting positive feed-back.
She was a professional photographer, singer and writer until she fell from a horse and injured her coccis. As she received all sorts of treatments, her way to the mysteries of the fantastic vehicle that envelopes our minds, emotions and soul has been opened and paved.
She is particularly intrigued and fascinated by the power of self-healing that all of us humans are gifted with, and has proven and continues to prove the miracles we can achieve as we become aware of ourselves through breathing, posture, and becoming conscious of our body reactions in every-day life.
In this retreat, she would like to share with you some of her simple, and yet, very enlightening discoveries.
